    1 week!
1 week until I can return to my glorious homeland. I'm uber excited for New Years and for seeing everybody! For those of you who don't know I'll be in AZ from Dec. 31 to Jan. 15 or thereabouts- so call me if you wanna hang out! The only (semi)definite plans I have are: I (might) be going to Disneyland with Ian at some point, I promised to help Ian move but that should only take part of a day, and I'm (probably) going skiing in Flag with Ian and fam from like the 1st-2nd ish? But besides that for the most part my schedule is pretty open. Megan and Laura, I see a lot of CSing in the near future, n'est-ce pas? I'm also staying with Ian, and yes my mother does know and is oddly enough very comforatble with it...strange, oh well it makes my life easier.

Anywho, happy holidays all! Is is weird that I'm looking forward to Dec. 31st more than Dec. 25th?

less than 24 hours until pumpkin bread!
Shortly I shall be boarding a bus.

Then several hours later a plane.

I shall bid the lovely city of Portland farewell at 10:45 PM ce soir

Then 3219 miles later I will be in Florida, but not until about noon tomorrow. Pooh.

Why did my parents have to move to other freaking end of the country? Sigh. C'est la vie I suppose.

Well I am awfully bummed that I can't see all of you lovely people this weekend, but alas it cannot be.

    Have a GREAT Thanksgiving evrybody!

    I'm a survivor
    Yes folks that's right,

I survived my very first semester on Varsity crew, and my grades and social life actually both managed to survive for the most part ( I think...well, ok maybe not so much in chemistry, but come on).

Wow, I'll actually be able to stay up past midnight without experiencing great pain the next day. I officially pledge to not allow myself to see the light (or lack there of) of 5 am, ever again, or....at least until February.

We had our last race of the season today in Washington , and it was probably one of the worst races I have ever had.

The conditions were HORRIBLE, after my race they were declared "unsafe" and ll of the other races were canceled. So instead the coches all had the brilliant idea of having us to erg relays- ohhhhh joy.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) I wasn't able to race in the relay because I either had, or was on the verge of having frost bite in my feet. Needless to say, my coach didn't want me to race and if someone doesn't want me to sprint on the erg, I'm really not going to complain. Anyway, the color came back eventually and I still have all 10 toes- yay!

Of course the race wasn't all bad- there was a costume prize by boats and our Varsity men totally won. Imagine 8 beefy varsity men dressed up as lumberjacks, wearing flannel shorts, suspenders, and WAYYYYYY way too short cut off jean shorts- yeah, pretty much the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life. My boat was slightly less creative and dressed up as Ninjas- but it was still fun.

Oh, did I mention how we put a hole in the boat as we pulled away from the dock? I totally blame the wind by the way.

All in all though, crew this season was in many ways a lot easier than I expected. Crew introduced me to a lot of great people, new friends, and got me into some damn good parties :)
I have a feeling that Spring season is going to kick my ass, but....I'll worry about that in three months. For some sick strange reason I can't quit the sport. I have such a love-hate relationship with it, and yet I still got up at 4:50 5 days a week. Craziness? Ohhh you bet.

I have developed a minor Moulin Rouge addiction...
If you find yourself sitting around saying, "Hey I really want to call, Allison, because I miss her so very much," you should just know that I am completely out of cell phone minutes until Oct. 11, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't call me!

It just means that I won't pick up, but I'll call you right back using my phone card. Or text me first and then I'll can call you.

2 weeks from today I'll be back in good 'ol Tempeeeee! (or tempay as my coach pronounces it)

    Andddd...that is all.

    La vie est belle
I think after 4 days, I am pretty much used to getting up at 4:40 in the morning.
In fact today has been great so far.

After about 5ish hours of sleep I got up to go row and it was actually a lot of fun. So far I'm really liking this whole division three thing, it is mighty sweet you might say. Even if it's 5 am, I just love being on the water. It makes me feel so gooooooooood.
The only thing I haven't really liked so far is that athletes at LC just don't get any love. It's such a hippie school, that our school spirit is somewhat lacking...sigh, oh well. The only thing that really annoys me is when people rag on crew, which they do at lotttttttttttt. Everyone claims that crew is a"cult," which so far I have seen no signs of that whatsoever. There's a HUGE difference between a strong team and a cult. I guess the only reason it really bugs me is 'cause rowing has been a big part of my life for the past 3 and a half years...and I guess, I don't mean his to be snobby but crew is a sport that you can't really appreciate or understand until you're out on the water actyually DOING it. Oh well, whatever. I suppose that's how a lot of things in life are, right?

It's so exciting to NOT row on a friggin man made lake with the occasional dead person floating around. We practice on the Williamete River which goes right through downtown, so when we row through Portland (since it's still so early) all of the lights from the big buildings are still on, and it's quite a sight!

Ohhhhh, I'm such a rowing addict.

I just woke up from a two and a half hour nap, and I don't have class until 3:30. Ohhh how I love Thursdays.
Have I mentioned how it's RAINING?

Have you paid your respects yet??
How amazing is Lewis and Clark you ask?

Amazing enough that when famous, loved figures pass away we have sundown vigils for them.

Yes, that's right. Last night I went to a sundown vigil for the late Steve Irwin, the croc hunter we all knew and loved.

I have PICTURES that perhaps I shall post later. Emily played taps, others came in their "safari gear," there were pictures, airfresheners, and stick figure drawings. I swear, only at Lewis and Clark.

In other news I'm going whitewater river rafting in two weekends with Emily and Jaimie on the deschutes River!!!! I'm soooooo excited!!!!!! :D

"Minds are like parachutes they work best when open"
    Hullo outside world!

I have one of those very rare free moments!
I am so glad that I chose to come to Lewis and Clark. Out of all of my schools that I visited I really, honestly feel that this school was the best fit. The campus is amazinggggg, by far the most beautiful one I visited on all my various trips. There are some parts of school where you can actualy forget you're in school and it feels like you're in a giant forest.

Everyone I've met so far has been really nice. evryone for the most part is really laid back, and there's definetely a strong hippy- tree hungging vibe which just makes me ohh so happy. Hooray for the environment! Hooray for an international focus!

Let's see the highlights so far have been:

*Moving in ( Nora actually had MORE stuff than me)
*Proving my mother wrong that yes, I do have room for all of those clothes with space still left over
    * Meeting all sorts of new interesting people
*Going to Fred Myers at midnight with about 300 other crazy college kids
*Getting a years worth of razers for FREEEEEE!
    *Meeting everyone on my floor
    *Convocation
*Getting my new laptop!!!!!! : D
*Playing ultimate frisbee with everyone on my floor
*Finding out that it looks like I'm going to be rowing varsity after all ( so if you don't hear from me, it's proably because I passed out in the woods somewhere without the strength to go on because I was up at 5:15 everyday this week except Sunday)
    *so much freeeeee food!
*Having a kick-ass dean of students!
*Placing into Intermediate French, so technically I would only need 1 semester to fufill me graduation requirement, but I'll probably just take more anyway
    * Improv comedy night and FREE dessert. Yum. Yum.
    *Discovering the rose garden yesterday
*Finding out the students can get Portland Symphony tickets for only $10, and finding people who want to go!!!!
    * Staying up until the wee hours of the morning/night? talking to new people

I hope everyone's having a great time whereevr they are!
    Peace :)

    The time has come
    Well world,

After months of anticipation and mixed feelings, at last it appears to be that time. I leave tomorrow morning with my mummy to fly to Portland.
Move in's not until Wednesday though.
Ohhhh, I'm super excited to pimp out my dorm room!

I always pictured that I'd be really scared and sad to leave my family, but I really feel ready. I guess 5 weeks in NZ will do that to you. I think my fam is way more upset about it then I am, especially Matt. Poor Matt. I'm going to have to do my sisterly duties and check up on my bro to make sure private school isnt changing him for the worse.

Time to face this so called "real world" I've heard so very much about.
    Look out LC!

Usually these things don't bother me, but I must admit a lil aprt of me is perhaps a wee bit nervous for my flight this Tuesday up to Oregon.

It seems like everytime I've opened up a newspaper/looked at CNN or something there's been at least 1 or 2 scary stories about planes. There have been a LOT of emergency landings lately because of "suspicious" behavior this past week.
I read a story recently where someone put a stick of dynomite IN their checked luggage. Oh, and the big story on CNN's website today is about a crash in Kentucky!

Geeeeeez, what is this world coming to????

    Here's the front

    And the side out front

There's also a gorgeous view of a river 5 minutes fom mi casa

    Sooooooo pretty! :)

I was going to take a few pics of our backyard, but...I went on a walk to the river and it was too dark by the time I got back, so I guess you just gotta come visit me to see for yourself!

People here are sooo friendly here! I was walking on our street today with my mum and people outside just like to intoroduce themselves to you, which is just so niceee. My family also ate dinner at this local lil pizza joint and the guys running it are so nice. They kept giving us free samples of stuff "You like olives? Here you must try."

    Chapter 2
Well I'm officially in Florida, kids.
Saying "see ya later" (NOT goodbye) to Ian was probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I've never cried that much in public before...I'll see him in about 5 weeks when he comes up in september to see me at school.

Flying was pretty uneventful. No liquids. That kinda sucked, but ohh well. But besides that everything was fine, and I didn't get blown up! Yay!

My parents and Matt picked me up and I must admit it was good to see them again. Matt gave me a BIG hug and wouldn't let go for an entire minute. I think he missed me...so I may or may not have told you about my parenst new house, but it's pretty ridiculous. It was built in the 1920's and was originally owned by Thomas Edison's sister in law. That's right. Thomas Edison was probably in my house back in the day. The house needs a lot of work, some paint, and my mom wants to remodel the kitchen, but it has a lot of character to it too. It's really big and open whuch is nice. We're also right on a river, and about 10 minutes from the beach. So I guess I can't really complain. I think the strangest thign by far so far is that we have a small chandelier in one of the rooms, that can only be turned on from upstairs in Matt's room (who thought that one up? I hve no clue...), but then the chandelier turns on and it flickers ORANGE light very dimly. and it is soooooo creepy. I seriously feel like I could be in DIsney's hanunted mansion or something.

Have I mentioned the frogs? Yeah...they're really loud and croak alll night long, so sleeping tonight should be good times, lol.

*I gave Ian the scrapbook I made him, and a couple other little things

I'm leavin on a jet plane...
    well world,

I'm officially leaving for Washington DC tomorrow morning with a few other delegates from Sister Cities last year. We're going to this big 50th anniversary sister Cities International Conference and it's going to be pretty darn amazing. Perhaps the best part (at least so far) is that I only had to pay $100 for the whole thing, SC paid for the rest. Whhhoooot.

The conference is being held at George Washington University. we also get to stay at the dorms there and I will either have 2,3, or 5 roomates who will all either be from another state or even another COUNTRY! Ohhh, man it's going to be awesome. Now, i don't wanna give y'all the wrong impression when I say "conference." Yes, we will do some sitting around and discussing various things. But we also get to:

*Go on a walking tour of the monuments at night
*Go to a meeting on CAPITOL HILL and have free time there!!!
    *Meet with local nongovernment organizations
*Go to a reception at one of the international embassies (I don't know which one yet, but I think China would be really cool!)
*Have free time at the SMITHSONIAN MUSEUMS!!!

I don't wanna bore you, but that's just a few of the things :)
oh, and I'll be back on sunday morning, if all goes according to plan.

    In other news:

*My parents are officially moving on the 20th of July for sunny Florida, so I'll probably be moving in with the lovely Laura quite soon.
*Friday is my mom's last day of work and she's been pretty sad :(
*Somebody still needs to FREAKIN BY OUR HOUSE so my parents don't go into crazy debt by still owning our current house, buying our new house in Florida, sending me and Andrew to college, AND Matt to fancy pants private school (I still can't believe they're sending him to private school, but that's another story)
*Ian and I had our 11 month anniversary last week :D Where does the time go,eh?
*Lori and I finally got our ears peirced. YAY!
*I don't have to go to work for a whole week! HOOORAY! :)

    blah blah blah

Just a lil glimpse at my new home next year...

A lot of people keep saying this is going to be the "best summer ever." And for you I sincerely hope that it is. However, I have decided for me this is officially going to be the summer of awkwardness. I guess, this summer just didn't turn out the way I thought my last summer at home would be. Not to say that it's bad, it's just different.

    * A couple times a week I get woken up and kicked out of my own house so realators can come look at it.
    * MY house doesn't even resemble MY house anymore, it's just a space.
    * I have my first job ever, and while the pay is good I really don't enjoy it at all.
    * My parents are moving next month but they don't even have a date yet,soo...
    * My mom doesn't like Lewis and Clark and is noticably negative about it whenever I bring the topic of school up
    * I'm going to be living with the lovely Laura in a month or so,which should be fun, and quite an experience in itself :)
    * I'm about to undergo the un-fun that is a long-distance relationship, and as the days creep by I dread it more and more...

Not to say that this summer has been horrible so far or is going to suck completely. No. I really have been having a great time hanging out with my friends and my boy! Grad parties, random outings, going to the movies, eating a lotta food, etc....It's been great!

I guess..while I am so EXCITED to go away to Oregon next year, I'm also scared shitless. After everything that's happened these past months, it really makes me question what I want.

I can't help but think about where I was a year ago. A year ago I was getting ready to go to NZ. SO MUCH has changed since then. I feel like my life has done a complete 360 degree turn since then. So I can't help but wonder, how much will things change again in this next year?

So I don't know about you, but I am NOT a fan of seniors taking their finals early.
    WTF.

AND they won't even give us our own special schedule, so we have to be prepared for EVERYTHING the first day.
    Again I say WTF.

Plus, while evryone received the study materials at the same time underclassman get more time to prepare, and ultimately will do better (just ask Mr. Johnson, cause he'll tell ALL about it). Yep you guessed it- WTF.
